Tamil thriller Netrikann, featuring the talented Nayanthara in the lead, is all set to make its OTT premiere on August 13, on Disney+ Hotstar. Vignesh Shivan, who has produced the film, has claimed on Twitter that the film bears witness to one of ‘Nayanthara’s best performances till date’.
Netrikann tells the story of a blind woman, who inadvertently cross paths with a brutal murderer and rapist, when she stumbles into his cab. When she realizes who she’s dealing with, she does not hesitate for a moment, going straight to the police with her valuable information. When the killer, who has been responsible for the deaths of over 12 women, gets wind of this fact he smugly challenges her to bring forth his downfall. In the midst of even this life-threatening situation, the woman is unwavering in her response to the brute, ‘I feel sorry for you’.
Opposite Nayanthara, the movie features Ajmal Ameer in the role of the antagonist, who is involved in a game of cat and mouse with the blind woman. In addition Manikandan and Lizzie Antony also make onscreen appearances in the movie, which borrows inspiration from the 2011 Korean crime film Blind.
In a statement director Milind Rau, perhaps best known for the horror film Aval, has called the film a special kind of thriller, the likes of which Kollywood has never seen. He has also talked in high tones about the main character, who made use of her intellect to butt heads with a deadly killer. He has also mentioned that the film will have a few unexpected twists and turns as well.
