Nishvika Naidu’s been in Kannada cinema for 6 years, but after the start, with three back-to-back films (Amma I Love You, Vaasu Naan Pakka Commercial and Padde Huli), but after that, things have been slow for her. And that is why, she says that at this stage in her career, opportunities are what matter to her. The actress was speaking to RJ Rashmi on the podcast Just Curious, when she opened up about the importance of getting the right platform to showcase one’s skillsets.

“I am not chasing money, or success; I am chasing opportunities. There is no formula or mantra to success. In my years in the industry, I have realized that it does not matter if you are talented and/or hard-working if you do not have the platform to show it. Getting those opportunities is not easy,” she says, explaining that like her, there are many others who are chasing the same goals of making something out of life in the film industry. “I just need to get those opportunities; once I do, I know what to make of them,” she adds.
For instance, despite being a trained classical dancer, Nishvika never really got to show her skills onscreen, until filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat asked her to do a special song in Garadi. She saw it as anopportunity to show audiences that she is a fabulous dancer. The song, Hodirale Halagi, she reckons, is the reason she then got the energetic dance number Hithalakka in Karataka Damanaka, which, in turn, has got her appreciation from many quarters. “Hodirale Halagi was never just one song, as far as I am concerned; it was an opportunity, and what I made of it was in my control,” she says.
Nishvika adds that earlier she would never ask for work, especially from people that she knows in the industry. “Let’s say, I ask someone to consider me for a particular role. That puts pressure on them and then they do so because I have asked. Tomorrow, if I ruin it, it will disappoint the person who gave you that chance,” says the actress. Today, she understands there is no harm in asking, but that she also needs to be prepared for rejection.
