Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari has a broad vision for his upcoming project, Ramayana. The project, as the name suggests, is based on the highly revered mythological epic of the same name. Ranbir Kapoor is set to lead the project and will be playing Lord Ram. Today, fresh updates hint that Marathi actor Ajinkya Deo is likely to star in director Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.

Ajinkya Deo to play the sage Vishvamitra in Ramayana?

According to a Filmfare report, Marathi actor Ajinkya Deo is likely to play the eminent sage Vishvamitra in Ramayana.

These developments come after news reports that Sai Pallavi is playing Goddess Sita and Sunny Deol is Lord Hanuman. South Indian superstar Yash is also rumoured to be a part of the movie, playing Ravana on screen.

Some reports by Zoom TV state that Vijay Sethupathi could play Ravana's youngest brother, Vibhishan. Lara Dutta and Sheeba Chaddha are also said to be part of the project. Lara will play Lord Ram's stepmother, Kaikeyi, while Sheeba will play Manthara. The movie might be released in Diwali 2025.

Months ago, when the project was in the pre-production stage, Alia Bhatt was approached to play Goddess Sita in the project. However, due to prior commitments to other projects, she had to opt out of the project.

What is special about this project?

Many Hindus hold the belief that a temple in Ayodhya is Ram Janmabhoomi, i.e., the revered birthplace of Lord Rama. The temple's official opening took place on January 22, 2024, with a traditional consecration ceremony known as prana pratishtha. The event was attended by prominent personalities like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, and Rohit Shetty, who joined in the celebration. A month after this celebration, Nitesh Tiwari began preparing for this project.
