Nivin Pauly confirms Prathichaya release date, political thriller to hit theatres ahead of Drishyam 3

The upcoming Malayalam film Prathichaya, starring actor Nivin Pauly, has announced its release date. Helmed by director B Unnikrishnan, Prathichaya will release in theatres on March 26, 2026. This means that the film will arrive a week ahead of Mohanlal’s much-anticipated thriller Drishyam 3.

When will Prathichaya release

Nivin Pauly took to social media on Tuesday to announce that his political thriller film Prathichaya, also featuring senior actor-filmmaker Balachandra Menon, will hit theatres on March 26. Currently, no other Malayalam film is scheduled to release next Thursday. But the movie Derby, starring Sagar Surya, Johny Antony, and Abu Salim, will be released the next day on March 27.

Prathichaya was previously announced for a March release, but only now has a release date been set. The film comes a week after Jayasurya’s Aadu 3 on March 19 and ahead of Mohanlal-led Drishyam 3 on April 2. Mohanlal had unveiled the title and trailer of the Nivin Pauly film earlier this year.

What is Prathichaya about

A political film, Prathichaya delves into the state politics, focusing on the two major parties. Balachandra Menon is said to play an astute leader and the Chief Minister of the state, while Nivin Pauly’s character will be seen as his confidante. The trailer showed that the film could delve into the happenings during the reign of a former Chief Minister and the role of a fictionalised corporate honcho.

Nivin Pauly was last seen in Baby Girl, which failed to impress both audiences and critics. The film, helmed by Arun Varma, is now streaming on SonyLiv. Before that, Nivin Pauly starred in Sarvam Maya, which was a blockbuster hit. The film, also starring Riya Shibu, revolves around a struggling guitarist whose live changes after he comes across a friendly spirit.
