From fans to people in the film industry, Tamil superstar Vijay's decision to quit films has shocked everyone. The actor, who announced his departure from Tamil cinema after a successful three-decade-long career as a leading man, made his decision after he announced his official entry into politics.

Although his political entry was a long-awaited one, the actor clarified all speculations about his new journey in a statement shared on his social media handles. For the uninitiated (you've clearly been living under a rock if you don't know this already), in his statement, Vijay announced that he has formed a new political party, Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, which will be contesting the 2026 Assembly elections. While announcing his political ambitions, the actor revealed something that has come as a shock to many. To give his complete attention to politics, Vijay announced a hard decision to quit cinema, which he will do after he wraps up his pending commitments.

So, one can only infer that the actor’s upcoming Venkat Prabhu directorial, The Greatest Of All Time, will be his last film.

Vijay's fans are heartbroken by his decision to quit films

Despite his news of joining politics being received positively, Thalapathy fans are disheartened by Vijay's decision to quit films. Many shared their mixed feelings over the actor leaving Tamil cinema at the peak of his career. From speculations over whether Vijay will star in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s LCU to his decision to quit films only to make a strong comeback after a few years, the news has created a huge social media uproar.

As ‘Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam’ trends at number one on X, here are some of the reactions of fans over their idol’s shocking revelation:

The Greatest Of All Time: Vijay’s upcoming sci-fi action flick

Vijay is currently shooting for director Venkat Prabhu's The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). The second schedule of the shoot is currently underway in Chennai. Since speculation that this will be Vijay's last film, the hype around GOAT has multiplied. The team of GOAT is planning to release the film on Vijay's 50th birthday, June 22.

However, an official confirmation about this is awaited from the team. Meanwhile, the film’s OTT rights were recently bagged by Netflix for a whopping price, as per reports. The Vijay starrer will be streaming on the OTT giant after its theatrical run.
