Bollywood right now is going through a very chaotic phase, where everyone is running around trying to make sense of the situation that has unfolded across the ecosystem. One thing that gets criticized the most in this chaos is the PR machinery that stands between the people and the talent, creating an aura around artists to turn them into stars. But as many have said, this machinery also indulges in unethical practices, elevating certain talents at the cost of pulling others down. It turns out that Nora Fatehi has now reacted to this issue, calling out the practice where stars dance in songs, and PR teams then promote them by unfairly comparing them to her in an attempt to undermine her success.
Whenever a new dance number enters the market, promotional campaigns are launched to push the track. In her latest interview, Nora Fatehi has spoken about how some of these campaigns try to pull her down by using tactics like spreading narratives such as ‘Nora’s career is over’ or claiming that a certain star dancing in the video is far superior to her. The dancer-actor revealed that she knows exactly who these people are but refuses to resort to such tactics to answer back or gain more fame.
Promoting her upcoming film Be Happy, Nora Fatehi revealed that many in the industry perceive her as arrogant, when in reality, she is simply straightforward. She also addressed how her aspirations to play lead roles in movies, rather than just performing in dance numbers, are often judged unfairly. She believes that everyone should be given the opportunity to both act and dance.
She said, "My logic is that everyone should be allowed to do songs, and everyone should act. But it should be fair for everybody. When I see these songs, you know what I like about them? That girls are coming out, being confident, being sexy, and trying to perform. What I don't like is when everybody starts using my name as a marketing tool."
Further, Nora Fatehi spoke about how actors pay PR agencies to use her name to promote their songs. "So when they want to market a song, they think, 'Let's compare it to Nora,' and I don't like that. All of the PR agencies are doing it. A new song is coming out? Cool, so they'll be like, 'Nora’s career is over,' or 'She can eat 100 Noras for breakfast.' I know who's behind this, and I know how much you have to pay to do that. I get a lot of PR packages convincing me to do the same, but I refuse. I won’t compare myself to anyone or bring someone else down. If a song is going to work, it should be because people appreciate my talent, not because they’re excited to replace someone else—that’s just ridiculous," Nora said.
