Finally, the makers of Ajith Kumar's forthcoming project Thunivu have announced its release date. Though it was widely speculated that the film will be released in theatres across the world on January 12, a few reports from exhibitors suggested a different date.
The trailer of the H Vinoth directorial was unveiled recently without mentioning release date. The heist drama, bankrolled by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, has been dubbed into Telugu as Tegimpu. According to the producer, both the versions will hit the screens on January 11. The official announcement has averted the much-expected clash between the film and Vijay's Varisu, which is releasing on January 12 as informed earlier.
The entire Kollywood industry has been looking forward to the release date announcements of both the movies. With Thunivu arriving a day earlier, fans of Ajith and trade pundits have started guessing the numbers the movie is likely to bring to the table on day one.
The last time movies of Ajith and Vijay clashed was nine years ago, but the films Veeram and Jilla, were released on the same day. Ajith's Viswasam and Vedalam, too, released along with Rajinikanth's Petta and Kamal Haasan's Thoongavanam a few years ago.
Though it isn't sure as to why makers of Thunivu decided to release the film a day in advance, cinephiles are going to have a rollicking time during this Pongal festival. Thunivu has music by Ghibran and action choreography handled by Supreme Sundar.
Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken and GM Sundar among others will be seen playing key roles in the project which will drop on Netflix in February.
