This year’s Academy Awards featured an incident that might very well go down as one of the most infamous moments in the show’s history. Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s appearance which was not well received by her husband and actor Will Smith, who promptly went on stage and slapped the former in the face. But it seems that this shocking moment was predicted by a Twitter user almost six years ago.

A tweet made by a user with the handle @_ja_s_on_ in 2016 recently surfaced online. In the tweet, the user said that Will ‘had’ to punch Chris, and that Will had ‘no choice’.

The tweet was made on the day of the 88th Academy Awards, hosted by Chris. It was the year when the awards were criticised for the lack of racial diversity in its nominees’ list, causing many celebrities to boycott the ceremony. Among the absentees were Will and Jada. During his opening monologue, Chris joked about Jada’s absence from the ceremony, saying that she probably was not even invited.

After this year’s Oscars ceremony, the tweet was revisited by netizens, with many marveling at how it seemed to ‘predict’ the altercation between Chris and Will.

Will had slapped the comedian who joked about Jada’s head during the ceremony. The latter is afflicted with an autoimmune condition called alopecia, which causes hair loss. Will had recently issued a public apology to Chris and the Academy for his actions. The actor had also won his first Academy Award for Best Actor, for his performance in King Richard.
