Oscar winner Resul Pookutty's debut directorial Otta is a biographical drama starring Asif Ali in the lead role. The teaser of the film that is based on S Hariharan's novel Run Away Children has been released. It features Arjun Ashokan and Asif Ali as two youngsters who are victims of toxic parenting. Both seem to have fled their homes due to issues with their parents.
Otta means 'lonely', and the film revolves around the lives of children who have run away from their homes.
Although the film is a biographical drama, the trailer's gripping scenes suggest that it will have a commercial appeal.
Otta is Resul Pookutty's directorial debut
Helmed by Resul Pookutty, Otta is the life story of S Hariharan who runs a rehabilitation centre for runaway kids. Resul had previously mentioned in an interview with Onmanorama that he met Hariharan at a function and was excited to hear his story, as he had run away from home when he was just eight years old
Apart from Asif and Arjun, Otta also stars Renji Panicker, Rohini Molleti, Sathyaraj, Shyamaprasad, and Indrajith Sukumaran in pivotal roles. Veteran Malayalam actress Shobana is also expected to do a role in the film.
Earlier, there were reports about the makers' plan of a worldwide release for the film on September 15 , along with Asif's other film, Kasargold. But the teaser has revealed that the film, that is jointly bankrolled by Resul Pookutty Productions and Children Reunited LLP, will be released in theatres in October.
Asif Ali's films
Asif Ali's upcoming release Kasargold is a crime drama helmed by Mridul Nair. Also starring Vinayakan and Sunny Wayne, the film will be released in theatres on September 15. Kasargold marks the reunion of Mridul Nair and Asif Ali after their successful film, B. Tech.
Meanwhile, the shooting for Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali's Kishkindha Kaandam wrapped up recently . The family drama is directed by Dinjith Ayyathan, who is known for the film Kakshi Amminippilla.
