Suresh Gopi’s stellar comeback as a cop in Paappan has set the cash registers ringing in the box office since its theatrical release in Kerala on July 29 and in centres outside the State and abroad last week. The film’s OTT and satellite rights too have now been acquired for a record price for a Suresh Gopi-starrer.

The movie, which also has Neeta Pillai, Gokul Suresh, Nyla Usha, Kaniha, Tini Tom and G Chandunath, revolves around a former cop being brought into consult in a case suspected to be a carried out by the same serial killer who had destroyed his personal life and career. How the case, which is investigated by his estranged daughter (Neeta) also leads to them rebuilding their broken bonds and giving him a shot at redemption, forms the plot of the film, which is helmed by veteran filmmaker Joshiy and scripted by RJ Shaan.

According to reports, the film’s OTT rights have been snapped up by ZEE5, which is expected to premiere the film soon. This could also be ZEE5’s biggest release, featuring a Malayalam superstar. Their previous films include Asif Ali’s Ellam Sheriyakum, Indrajith Sukumaran’s Aaha, Anaswara Rajan’s Super Sharanya and Mathew Thomas’ Prakashan Parakkatte.

ZEE5 is yet to announce an official release date of the movie, but it’s expected to happen sooner than their previous OTT releases. With the film still running in theatres, a release date by the first week of September seems likely.

The investigative thriller cum crime drama, meanwhile, is on its way to becoming the highest-grosser in Suresh Gopi’s career. The movie had crossed Rs 13 crore in box office collection before it even opened to GCC centres on August 5, where the film has got a good reception. The film also marked his collaboration with Joshiy after almost a decade since Salaam Kashmier.
