Pabar OTT release date: When and where to watch Babushaan Mohanty's Odia drama film based on true events

Actor Babushaan Mohanty's last release–Pabar–the Odia drama film, hit the theatres in June 2024. Now, after a year, the mass entertainer is set to make its digital debut on AAO NXT platform. Babushaan's 2022 film–Daman –won the prestigious National Film Award for Best Odia Film category in 2023. However, Pabar claims to be comedy drama that's loosing based on real-life events, with an amazing mixture of fictional storyline. The Odia film grossed Rs 1.34 crore worldwide at the box office.

The Odia film–Pabar–is set to drop on AAO NXT and OTTplay Premium, on April 23, 2025. Apart from Babushaan Mohanty, the comedy drama also features Elina Samantray, Choudhary Jayprakash, Krishna Kar, Rabi Mishra, and Aparajita Mohanty. Pabar is directed by Ashok Pati and co-written by Amit Kumar Dash and Pranab Prasanna Rath, and is backed by Mohanty's production house, Babushaan Films.

What's the plot of Pabar film?

The film follows the story of Benudhar Kandi (Babushaan Mohanty), who lives in a small village called Gumagarh in Odisha. He does not have big dreams and he's happy with what he already has. However, everything changes when a father-son duo, who are contractors, approach him to stand in the upcoming village election. The duo has been looking for someone they can influence, and Benudhar seems like the perfect candidate.

At first, Benudhar hesitates, but the contractors paint an alluring picture of the benefits of becoming a sarpanch (village head). They promise him power, influence, and a better life. Benudhar starts to dream big, envisioning all the good he could do for his village and the perks that come with the position. He trusts the contractors blindly, believing they will guide him every step of the way.

Fortunately, Benudhar wins the election, and his life changes overnight. But he soon realises that the contractors' intentions are not pure. An incident makes him see their true colours, and he understands that they have been using him for their own gain. This realisation sparks a transformation in Benudhar. He begins to understand the real responsibilities of a sarpanch and decides to work for the betterment of his village, rather than following the contractors. But Benudhar's journey is not easy. The opposition, including the previous sarpanch, creates obstacles, trying to oppress his efforts. Despite these challenges, Benudhar is determined to make a difference.
