July 2023 has been the season of postponing releases so far, in Malayalam. After Kunchacko Boban’s Padmini, Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan and debutant Devan’s Valatty had pushed their release dates owing to the rains in Kerala, the latest to join the list are Saiju Kurup’s Pappachan Olivilaanu and Indrajith Sukumaran’s Kunjammini’s Hospital.

Both the entertainers were initially set for a July 28 release, but now the makers have decided to push the two movies to August, with Voice of Sathyanathan taking the prime slot in most theatres on that date. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani is another much-anticipated film to hit theatres on July 28.

When OTTplay got in touch with a senior cast member of Saiju Kurup’s Pappachan Olivilaanu, the source said, “The plan right now is to release the movie on August 4.” The film, which is a rural comedy entertainer, is helmed by debutant Sinto Sunny and revolves around its titular character, who has a habit of exaggerating the truth and how this lands him in trouble. Aju Varghese, Srinda and Vijayaraghavan are also part of the movie.

Meanwhile, Kunjammini’s Hospital, which is scripted by Priyan Ottathilaanu writers and directed by Sanal Devan, is a fantasy comedy set against the backdrop of a haunted hospital. Nyla Usha, Indrajith Sukumaran, Prakash Raj, Binu Pappu and Baburaj essay the pivotal characters in the film. The movie’s release date has been shifted from July 28 to August 11, informs its co-scriptwriter Abhayakumar to OTTplay.

With the two movies being pushed to August, director Raffi’s comedy entertainer Voice of Sathyanathan along with Vineeth Sreenivasan and Shine Tom Chacko’s Kurukkan will be the biggest releases in Malayalam this week. While the former deals with a serious subject through humour, Kurukkan is an all-out madcap comedy that will also mark the comeback of veteran actor Sreenivasan.
