Paradha on OTT: ‘Promising start, preachy ending’, say netizens after Anupama Parameswaran’s film begins streaming

Paradha was a film that Anupama Parameswaran held close to her heart and spoke of highly during the promotions. It would see her in her career-best performance to date, she reckoned, and when the film hit theatres, no one faulted her. However, the box office was not as kind, with the film failing miserably. There was a lot of negativity about the film on social media, which Anupama felt was extremely harsh only because it was a female-centric movie.

Yet, despite the poor theatrical reception, Paradha managed to make it to OTT, a luxury that not many films enjoy. Paradha dropped on Amazon Prime Video on September 12, 2025, with no prior intimation. Since its OTT release, there has been a steady stream of comments about the film, which, interestingly, has divided netizens, almost as if by gender, with women loving the thoughtful subject, beautifully portrayed female friendships, while the men weren’t as impressed. However, everyone’s in unison that the performances by the three lead women, were top notch.

Directed by Praveen Kandregula, who also has writing credits, Paradha features music by Gopi Sundar and cinematography by Mridul Sujit Sen. The film had released in Telugu and Malayalam in theatres and the initial OTT outing was also in those languages, with other versions, including Kannada and Tamil arriving a day later.
