The Pongal clash is on amid Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi. While the films come a day apart with Jana Nayagan coming on January 9, the films will be competing at the box office over the weekend, and the Pongal festive period. While there was much rumours regarding the clash and competition, and how Sivakarthikeyan film had advanced their release date from January 14 to 10, the actor addressed the issue at the Parasakthi audio launch recently. He explained why his film had to come along with Jana Nayagan.
Why Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi is releasing with Jana Nayagan?
At the Parasakthi audio launch, Sivakarthikeyan said that during the start of project, it was planned that the film will hit theatres for Diwali or in October. However, it was during this time, Jana Nayagan too had planned for release. "Once we got to know that Vijay sir film is coming, we locked January release for the festive period. The producer had also revealed Pongal release in an interview. But after sometime, Vijay sir's film was announced for Pongal and I dialled the producer. We thought about changing it, but the producer said all the investors, financiers were told January release, and later there will be elections during April and May. Since it involved business choices, we had to accept as artistes,” Sivakarthikeyan said, mentioning that it is needed that they release the movie in January.
What did Jana Nayagan team say for the clash?
Sivakarthikeyan also recalled how he called Vijay's manager to talk about the clash, and revealed that the manager was aware of the clash. The actor said, "While I mentioned how it is Vijay sir's last film, he was okay for both the films to come. I also wanted him to mention it to Vijay sir, given many might meddle with the communication. However, Vijay sir was okay with the release and even sent his best wishes. Any sort of misinformation is just business for some and evilness of others.”
The Parasakthi actor also said that all is well between him and Vijay and asked everyone to celebrate Jana Nayagan on January 9 and then watch Parasakthi the following day. Notably Sivakarthikeyan played a cameo role in Vijay’s The GOAT, and recalled how Vijay has always been kind and grateful whenever they met, for sharing the screen space.
