The craving for Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen for almost half a decade had left fans restless. And when he bounced back on the screen with Pathaan in January 2023, it was no less than a carnival. Theatres were flooded and fans were celebrating the revival of the superstardom that their favourite star had claimed and stood on firmly for decades. So now, when Yash Raj Films looks set for round two of that frenzy, it doesn’t come as a surprise.
Yes, there is Pathaan 2 in store for us, and the studio is already in the works. But what is surprising is the latest update that says the sequel will not be directed by Siddharth Anand. Even though we are shocked at this update, it is also not a surprise if one has observed Aditya Chopra’s plan for the spy universe.
Pathaan 2 Gets A New Director?
While the YRF Spy Universe is growing and there is a Salman Khan’s Tiger meets Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan movie already in the pipeline and also an Alia Bhatt-starrer spy drama, there is a new update. The studio is looking to expand the Pathaan franchise as a standalone like Tiger. Aditya Chopra, who wants to go on floors with Pathaan 2 by the end of 2024, as per Peeping Moon, is now looking for a new director for the film. Yes, Siddharth Anand will not be directing the sequel to Shah Rukh Khan’s over Rs 1,000 crore film.
However, a source close to the development reveals how this should come as a surprise, as Aditya Chopra has had this style forever. The head honcho of YRF has always hired a different director for each film in the franchise. For example, all three Tiger films have been directed by different directors. War was directed by Siddharth Anand, but the sequel, War 2, is being directed by Ayan Mukerji. So, Chopra is now busy zeroing in on a director for Pathaan 2.

However, Siddharth Anand is still under the YRF umbrella, even if he is not associated with Pathaan 2. The filmmaker has the task of directing and shaping the biggest film in the spy universe. He is in charge of the Tiger vs Pathaan movie, that has made a massive buzz across the country.
Meanwhile, that is not it. Siddharth Anand, alongside his gig at YRF, is also working with Shah Rukh Khan for another movie, marking their reunion after Pathaan already. This time, however, Anand is producing SRK’s next which is being directed by Sujoy Ghosh and is called King. The movie also stars Suhana Khan and is set to go on floors in Mumbai next month.
