The much-anticipated Malayalam film Patriot is over a month away from its global theatrical release on April 23, 2026. Led by stalwarts Mammootty and Mohanlal, Patriot is getting a special festival screening as well. The Mahesh Narayanan-helmed film will open the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.
The 24th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) will feature the Malayalam film Patriot as its opening movie. The prestigious film fest is scheduled to be held from April 23 to 26. Notably, Patriot’s theatrical release date is also on April 23, coinciding with the festival opening. Patriot is much-awaited as it marks Mohanlal-Mammootty’s onscreen reunion after 18 years.

Patriot joins several other notable titles from across the globe. IFFLA will feature a total of 27 titles, including documentaries and short films. The festival will close with The Great Shamsuddin Family, helmed by writer-director Anusha Rizvi.
The upcoming movie Patriot is touted to be a high-octane espionage thriller. The film will delve into the movie to implement a surveillance system and the attempts to thwart the covert mission. Megastar Mammootty appears as Daniel James, a former JAG officer, who has been framed for espionage and now needs to clear his name. Mohanlal is seen as Colonel Rahim.
Apart from Mohanlal and Mammootty, Patriot features an ensemble cast with the likes of Fahadh Faasil appearing as the villain. Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara play other key roles in the film along with Darshana Rajendran and senior actress Revathy.
The first song from Patriot, Kaattu Thottappol, featuring Kunchacko Boban and Darshana was released recently. The song was composed by Sushin Shyam.
Before Patriot, Mohanlal has a bigger release on April 2 when his much-awaited thriller Drishyam 3 is scheduled to hit theatres.
