Pennu Case, Nikhila Vimal's most recent Malayalam film, is currently doing well in theatres, with many praising its humorous plot and execution. The film, being the first Malayalam release of 2026, is also turning out to be a hit among the family audience. Here are some reasons to see this comedic drama in cinemas now.
Inspired by actual events, the film's premise is straightforward but predictable to some extend. Police officer Manoj finds himself in an odd predicament when a young woman named Rohini is arrested for fooling men in the name of marriage. After hearing about her tricking men in various rural parts of Kerala and Karnataka, Manoj and his squad of police officers find it amusing as well as curious. They eventually begin to investigate the truth about her behaviour. Whether Rohini is a criminal or a victim of an extensive criminal network is the main question of this movie.
Despite having the obvious aspects of this genre, the movie manages to keep viewers intrigued, with its end acting as its main highlight. Even while the movie may not seem astonishing, the filmmaker deserves kudos for delivering an intriguing surprise in the climax, leaving many questions unanswered for the audience. However, the director deserve praise for their efforts to use distractions till the very end in order to add a dramatic element.
Another most enjoyable part of Pennu Case is Nikhila Vimal's depiction of Rohini. Her ability to present the transitions of a girl next door to a prankster in a light-hearted manner is commendable. Others, particularly Aju Varghese, Hakim Shahjahan, and Ramesh Pisharody, all gave hilarious performances.
The movie never takes a female-centric viewpoint at any point. Instead, Pennu Case does not address the gender inequity in a dogmatic way, instead is focused on bringing the realities of marriage frauds.
