Vijay Antony, who tried his hands at various crafts of cinema, surprised one and all when he announced that he will make his directorial debut with Pichaikkaran 2, the sequel to Pichaikkaran, which starred himself. The 2016 movie, however, had Sasi at its helm.

The filmmaker has been busy with other projects because of which he couldn't direct the sequel. Priya Krishnaswamy, who garnered critical acclaim with her hard-hitting film Baaram, was roped in to direct Pichaikkaran 2 initially, but Vijay himself decided to wield the megaphone later.

The project was in the news a few weeks ago when Vijay suffered an injury while filming a crucial sequence for the movie in Malaysia. The actor-turned-filmmaker took to his social media page after a few days to inform everyone that he had undergone a major surgery and that he will be back soon with an announcement on the film's release.

The makers also unveiled the first four minutes of the project recently as part of a promotional strategy. Vijay had executed a similar plan for a couple of movies in the past as well.

He has now announced that Pichaikkaran 2 will be released on April 14 in Tamil and Telugu. Its Tollywood version has been titled Bichagadu 2. Vijay Antony Film Corporation has bankrolled the movie which features Kavya Thapar, Radha Ravi, YG Mahendran, Mansoor Ali Khan and Hareesh Peradi among others in key roles.

Vijay himself has composed music and handled editing for the film which has Om Narayanan cranking the camera. Rajasekar and Mahesh Mathew have choreographed action scenes while K Palani and Paul Antony have penned screenplay along with Vijay.
