After lying in the cans for more than a year's time, Prabhu Deva-starrer Pon Manickavel is finally releasing this Friday. Nemichand Jhabak and Hitesh Jhabak have bankrolled the film which is said to be based on a true incident which happened in Tamil Nadu a while ago.

Nivetha Pethuraj will be seen essaying the female lead role in the action thriller which has music composed by Imman, editing by T Shivanandeeswaran and cinematography by KG Venkatesh. Suresh Chandra Menon, Mahendran, Soori and Prabhakar play pivotal roles in the film.

What's Pon Manickavel all about?

The movie is about an upright cop who is after a dreaded criminal. The latter challenges the police department before committing a murder. Prabhu Deva, who plays the titular role, is hell bent on nabbing him at any cost, but the unexpected intervention from politicians and a few senior cops spoil his plans.

How he handles the case despite facing several odds forms the rest of the story. The movie, which is his 50th project as an actor, has him donning the cop uniform for the first time in his career.

When and where will Pon Manickavel be available to watch?

The movie will have a direct release on Disney+ Hotstar on November 19. The film was earlier supposed to hit the screens on February 2020. But the makers couldn't do so and it was postponed by a month. However, the onslaught of COVID-19 spoiled their plans.

The team had released a trailer of the film about two years ago. They have come up with another trailer recently along with the announcement of the project. The makers unveiled the video song, Uthira Uthira, featuring the lead actors, too, a week ago.
