Ponman OTT release date: When, where to watch Basil Joseph’s gripping Malayalam film

Basil Joseph joined forces with Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose to bring a compelling tale of underdogs in a film, titled Ponman. The Malayalam film opened to positive reviews upon its theatrical release in January and is among the most-awaited movies on OTT. In the latest update, Basil Joseph’s Ponman is all set to make its OTT premiere on JioHotstar soon. Here are all the details... 

Ponman on OTT: When to watch Basil Joseph’s film on JioHotstar

Basil Joseph-starrer Ponman released in theatres on January 30, 2025. Now after nearly 1.5 months, the Malayalam film is set to release on JioHotstar on March 14, 2025. The streaming platform made the announcement on their Instagram handle. But for now, we do not know if the Malayalam movie will be available in other languages. 

Ponman plot and cast

Helmed by Jothish Shankar, Ponman is based on GR Indugopan's Naalanchu Cheruppakar. Indugopan has also penned the movie along with Justin Mathew. 

Set in Kollam, Ponman revolves around gold dealer PP Ajesh who lends gold jewellery for the marriage of Bruno's sister Steffi. However, when the promise to return the gold is not kept, Ajesh has to stand up to Steffi's husband to reclaim the gold. 

Basil Joseph stars as Ajesh, who will go to any extent to retrieve what was rightfully his. Sajin Gopu of Aavesham fame plays Steffi’s husband Mariyano, while Lijomol Jose appears as Steffi. Anand Manmadhan and Deepak Parambol also appear in other key roles. 

The film has cinematography by Sanu John Varghese, while the music is scored by Justin Varghese. Ponman is especially noted for its compelling performances and gripping plot.

But despite the mostly good reviews, Ponman did not receive as much love as it deserved from audiences. Now, with the OTT premiere, Basil Joseph’s film is expected to reach out to a larger audience and will hopefully find more appreciation.

Ponman is Basil's second movie to release in theatres this year. His first release of the year was Pravinkoodu Shappu.
