It's been 10 days since Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 has been released, and there is no sign of the movie slowing down at the box office. The movie has created a few records in many territories, and is poised to shatter more records in the coming days. The film is on its way to emerge as the numer uno grosser in Tamil Nadu by outdoing Kamal Haasan's Vikram.

The makers have now announced that the period film has become the highest grossing Tamil movie in a few countries. PS 1 had a flying start at the US box office, with encouraging premiere numbers.

The film is now the numero uno Kollywood movie in the country by surpassing 2.0. It is after a long time that a non-Rajinikanth movie has emerged as the biggest Tamil hit in the US market. The Superstar still has three out of top five Tamil films there.

However, films like Endhiran, Kabali and 2.0 had huge contributions from its Telugu version as well. But a lion's share of the collection for Ponniyin Selvan 1 has come from the Tamil version. Makers hope that its second installment, too, will open to huge numbers.

Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and the UK are other countries where the movie has managed to become the highest grossing Tamil film. Apart from Tamil Nadu, Kerala is another territory where the project is showcasing impressive box office performance. It is currently the second highest grossing Tamil film there.

The film's collection from Hindi market is inching towards 20 crore, which is extraordinary considering the low buzz it had and the competition with multi-starrer gangster drama Vikram Vedha.
