After a short hiatus, Twitter is abuzz with posts and discussion on Ponniyin Selvan. The makers have announced the release date of Ponniyin Selvan 2, leaving fans enthralled. The Mani Ratnam directorial, starring Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi and Jayam Ravi in lead roles, will hit the screens on April 28.

Movie buffs started expressing their excitement by taking to Twitter. Within no time, the hashtag #CholasAreBack started trending on the social media platform. Fans of various actors who played pivotal roles in the film expressed curiosity on how their favourite stars would perform in the sequel.

One of the film buffs has said that a mere announcement has given him goosebumps, and he is wondering what would happen if makers come up with the trailer. The announcement video has Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Aishwarya Rai appearing in it. Someone has pointed out Trisha's absence in it and has expressed displeasure.

While some of them have appreciated the clever move of makers to release the sequel sooner, there are a few who have started predicting its box office prospects. The first part grossed more than 400 crores, and this time many are expecting it to gross no less than 500 crores.

There are those who have come up with suggestions for makers with regard to promotions. They feel that they should begin various promotional activities sooner rather than waiting till the last minute.

Some of the cinephiles pointed out the similarity Ponniyin Selvan 2 shares with Baahubali 2. Both the movies have common release dates - April 28 - they expressed hope on the Tamil movie repeating the success saga of the Telugu movie.

A few of them rooted for Vikram's Aditha Karikalan and Karthi's Vanthiyathevan, while some others said they can't wait to watch Trisha as Kundavai and Aishwarya as Nandini. Fans of Ravi's Rajaraja Cholan, too, weren't far behind.
