Ponniyin Selvan 1, which hit the screens on September 30 last year, shattered several box office records in Tamil Nadu and emerged as the highest grosser in the state. The Mani Ratnam directorial also made impressive figures in overseas and Kerala markets.

The mammoth project, jointly bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, earned praise from critics and audience for various aspects, including performances of lead actors like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi. AR Rahman's music, Thota Tharani's production design and Ravi Varman's cinematography stood out, leaving viewers excited.

A few weeks ago, it was officially announced that Ponniyin Selvan 2, the much-awaited sequel, will be released on April 28. The makers have now come up with another update. The second installment of the most-anticipated franchise in Kollywood will be available in IMAX version as well.

The first part, too, was released in IMAX and audiences in Tamil Nadu were excited to catch up with the movie in two theatres in Chennai which featured the version. This time, movie buffs in Coimbatore, too, can enjoy the IMAX version as the city is set to have a new screen featuring the updated technicalities soon.

The team is expected to kick start promotions from next month. Vikram is busy with Pa Ranjith's Thangalaan while Trisha has joined Lokesh Kanagaraj's Thalapathy 67.

Jayam Ravi has multiple projects going on, including a film each with Ahmed, Rajesh and Antony Bhagyaraj, and Karthi has started working on Raju Murugan's Japan sometime ago. The first part of PS 1 was concluded with a suspense-filled sequence and cinephiles are eager to know how the filmmaker has handled the second part.
