When it comes to winning the audience's hearts, Chiyaan Vikram sure knows how to do it well. During the recent promotions of his upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan 2 in Coimbatore, as part of the Chola tour, the actor likened his character Aditha Karikalan to his real life. When the host of the event, Anjana Rangan asked Chiyaan how he managed to play such lovelorn characters so well, he said that the character was just like him.

"That's because I am the original soupboy," he said. " No one loved me during my college days. I would hop from one bus stop to another but in vain. I studied in Loyola college, which was a co-education institute. But there was only a nun and a lady teacher, and an old PG student. I have always been a soupboy. Be it my character in David or this film, it's not acting, this is real," he said.

He added that it was in Coimbatore that he treated his taste buds well for a change. "In every movie of mine, I am either losing weight or gaining weight. It was in Majaa (2005) that I played a fun character. I shot my portions in Pollachi and ate really well. It's here that I found out that one could whip up 28 varieties of idli and 50 varieties of dosa. I tried everything here and I was very happy. Today, when Karthi and the rest of the team (Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Aishwarya Lekshmi), invited me for biriyani, I couldn't go because I am on a diet."

The Thangalaan actor also stated that it's not often that one gets to do projects featuring multiple actors. "Films like Pithamagan or Majaa, or this one, don't come to you very often. We either do solo projects or end up doing dual roles. I thoroughly enjoyed bonding with my colleagues during the time. All credit goes to Mani Ratnam sir."

He added, "This apart Ponniyin Selvan 1 has become a huge success because of you. It's because you accepted the film that it did well. "
