Talking about Aishwarya Lekshmi, who plays Samudra Kumari Poonguzhali in the film, Jayam Ravi said that he loved her never give up attitude. "It's not easy to wear that attire and row a boat, but she did it with gusto. Talking about Trisha, who plays his sister Kundavai, Ravi said that she was a completely carefree person. "She would walk into the sets, read her scenes, perform and leave, without a care in the world."
On Karthi, who plays the Chola commander and spy Vanthiyathevan in the film, Jayam Ravi said that he admired his confidence."I like the way he went for a job, came back and began a career in films and then never looked back."
The film is an adaptation of Kalki's eminent novel of the same name, which was penned in five parts. "This film has taught me a lot and I have so much gratitude for Mani Ratnam sir. He has made it so well that Ponniyin Selvan 1 can now only be compared with Ponniyin Selvan 2."
When the event's host Anjana asked Jayam Ravi, if there was a sequel to a Mani Ratnam, that he would like to be a part of, and pat came the reply. "Nayagan!" The actor also gave a strong reason for the same. "I love Iruvar, too. While Mani Ratnam sir made Iruvar, I think Nayagan made Mani Ratnam sir."
The actor also thanked the Coimbatore audience and called the city his second home. "And I am not saying this just for the heck of it. But I truly believe this city is my second home. I have always received a lot of love here and I have nothing but gratitude to the people of Coimbatore.
