Ponniyin Selvan 2: The Mani Ratnam movie opens to THIS stunning number for premiere shows in the USA

The Ponniyin Selvan 2 day is here! Kollywood fans are excited to the core as they can't wait to relish what Mani Ratnam has cooked for them. Movie buffs in Tamil Nadu were slightly disappointed when they got to know that shows begin in the state only at 9 am.

However, those in the USA, Kerala, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are thrilled as they get the opportunity to watch the magnum opus at the earliest. Lyca Productions, which bankrolled the project along with Madras Talkies, had allotted a huge number of premiere shows in the USA. It was said to be a record release for a Tamil film in the country.

As expected, the figures from the premiere show are going to be big. The makers have now officially announced that it has grossed $500k+ mark, leaving movie enthusiasts excited. With positive reviews pouring in, it is expected that the numbers will be stunning on day one.

The movie is being released in several formats in the US. Ponniyin Selvan 1, when released last year, emerged as the second highest Tamil movie in terms of gross in the US, standing tall next only to Rajinikanth's 2.0. All eyes are now on the final run of Ponniyin Selvan 2.

PS 1 is currently the highest grossing movie in Tamil Nadu. Can PS 2 surpass it and deliver back-to-back super hits for Mani Ratnam? Cinephiles feel that with no big ticket film in the vicinity, the film is likely to create several records if it opens to positive reviews.

Amazon Prime has bagged its digital rights. PS 2 is expected to drop on the platform in the first week of June, if everything goes well.
