A still from Ponniyin Selvan 1.
Actor Trisha and Karthi engaged in a playful banter on Twitter ahead of the release of the first single from Ponniyin Selvan 2 . The duo played the roles of Kundavai and Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, respectively, in director Mani Ratnam's ambitious costume drama Ponniyin Selvan. Building up to the release of the romantic melody titled Aga Naga, Trisha and Karthi exchanged a few romantic notes as their characters on Twitter.
And their exchanges have charmed the hearts of fans of the movie. In one of the tweets, Karthi wrote, "The man who crossed the ocean to carry out your command is returning. You won't send me away by just offering buttermilk, right?"
"What else Vanthiyathevan wants? Are you gonna ask me to return what you gave me?," Trisha responded.
"No. My life is always yours. Give a command to prepare a song for us to vibe together when I return to Pazhayarai," he responded.
In the first part of Ponniyin Selvan, Vanthiyathevan falls in love immediately after he meets Kundavai. And Kundavai also feels the same way about him. Kundavai asks Vanthiyathevan, a loyal commander in her elder brother Aditya Karikalan's army, to get a message to her younger brother Ponniyin Selvan, who is camping with his army in Lanka. And before he goes on a mission, Vanthiyathevan pledges his life to the service of Kundavai.
Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released in cinemas last year and received rave reviews. The movie was a long-nurtured dream of Mani Ratnam. The movie grossed about Rs 500 crore from its global ticket sales. And it ended on a massive cliffhanger. Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release in cinemas on April 28, 2023. Besides Trisha and Karthi, the film also stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala.
