Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan has opened to positive response from various quarters, and as expected, the film is creating ripples at the box office not just in Tamil Nadu, but in other territories as well. The movie, which grossed ₹80 crores at the box office on day one across the world, has now created a rare feat at the US box office.
The multi-starrer movie has grossed $1M back-to-back on its first three days, including premiere, which is a unique achievement for a Tamil film. Rajamouli's Baahubali, Baahubali 2 and RRR are the three other movies which enjoy this recognition.
The US has become the second biggest territory for the movie after Tamil Nadu in terms of collections. The film has comfortably entered the ₹100 crore mark yesterday, and film lovers are eager to know if makers would announce the second day collection as well.
Ponniyin Selvan has been maintaining steady collections on second day at Kerala box office as well, and trade pundits predict that there are chances of the movie holding well at the Hindi box office, too, as Vikram Vedha's numbers are not on par with the reviews it has garnered.
The team is quite elated at the response from movie buffs across the world, and actors Vikram and Karthi among others have already taken to their social media handles to express excitement and gratitude.
The historical fiction has turned out to be Mani Ratnam's biggest hit and is his first ₹100 crore movie. Apart from actors' performances, AR Rahman's music and other technical departments have been garnering applause from film lovers. They are now looking forward to its second installment which is likely to hit the screens after seven to months.
