Ponram's Sasikumar-starrer MGR Magan to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar this Deepavali?

Director Ponram's MGR Magan evoked interest among movie buffs since the time of its announcement, thanks to its catchy title. Sasikumar and Mirnalini Ravi play lead roles in the movie which is billed as a family drama. Sathyaraj essays the role of MG Ramasamy, a crucial character in the film. As Sasikumar plays his son, the movie is titled MGR Magan. 

The director had earlier mentioned a few times that the relationship between the two characters played by the actors is an integral part of the project. Samuthirakani, who has teamed up with Sasikumar in a few movies, will also be seen in a key role as the latter's brother. Saranya Ponvannan and Nandita Swetha are others who are part of the cast. The story of the film is set against the backdrop of Theni. 

The film was initially supposed to hit the screens on Pongal 2020. After they postponed their plans, the makers came up with another date when theatres reopened in Tamil Nadu as part of the unlock in the state. According to a tweet from the makers which was posted earlier this year, the movie was supposed to hit the screens on April 23. They also announced the arrival of first single from the film. However, the second wave of the pandemic made theatres in Tamil Nadu to shutdown from April 26. It is now heard that the film will have a premiere on Deepavali on Disney+ Hotstar.    

Though an official announcement is yet to be made from the social media handles of the makers and the streaming platform, sources say that the deal is confirmed and that it is a matter of time before an update on the same is revealed. Sasikumar's Udanpirappe premiered on Amazon Prime Video a few days ago.
