Poonam Pandey fake death - Pooja Bhatt, Tahira Kashyap, Sonal Chauhan and others lash out at the publicity stunt

Poonam Pandey resurfaced on the internet but unlike yesterday, netizens and stars traded their grief with anger after it was revealed that the model and actress had faked her death to raise awareness about cervical cancer. This led to many celebrities lashing out at Pandey for playing with a sensitive topic, dubbing the stunt as "a new low".

Social media was abuzz with several rumours and speculations after a post on Poonam Pandey’s official Instagram account stated that the Nasha actress had passed away at the age of 32 due to cervical cancer. The controversial internet personality confessed that she faked her death to raise awareness about cervical cancer. She also shared an apology via a video message. However, her extreme measures on a sensitive topic set off a social media war. Celebs like Tahira Kashyap, Pooja Bhatt, Sonal Chauhan, Mini Mathur, Gulshan Devaiah, and others slammed the actress for the marketing gimmick and expressed anger at her insensitivity. Film producer Ekta Kapoor dropped a comment and slammed the company for spreading fake awareness about the vaccine.

Pooja Bhatt, Gulshan Devaiah, and others on Poonam Pandey

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), director-actor Pooja Bhatt spoke about Poonam Pandey’s reckless act and explained that it was disgraceful. She even lashed out at the PR/marketing team. Bhatt had shared her condolences to Pandey’s family after the news of her death had surfaced.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah also shared his opinions on the viral news, saying that he had his doubts over yesterday's post announcing Poonam's untimely death. Author and media personality Tahira Kashyap took to her Instagram story to express her shock. She said, “Witnessed the lowest of lows today. Oscillating emotions between being triggered, angry, shocked, and disbelief”. 

Jannat actress Sonal Chauhan and TV anchor Mini Mathur also criticised the act and expressed disappointment for Poonam stooping so low.

Meanwhile, the death post shared on February 2, received mixed reactions from netizens as many doubted the actress mentioned that her family and team were deeply saddened by the sudden death news. This led to a stir on social media where several celebrities including Lockupp stars Kangana Ranaut and Karan Kundrra extended their condolences to her family.
