Gultoo maker Janardhan Chikkanna's latest is a light-hearted comedy that marks The Viral Fever's entry into Kannada cinema

The upcoming Kannada film Powder has audiences excited on multiple counts. For starters, it is directed by Janardhan Chikkanna, who made Gultoo earlier, and, it is the first creative collaboration between KRG Studios and The Viral Fever (TVF). But, most importantly, it brings together an insanely creative ensemble cast, including Diganth, Anirudh Acharya, Bharath GB, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Rangayana Raghu, Sharmiela Mandre, Ravishankar Gowda, Sunder Veena, Dhanya Ramkumar and Nagabhushana, among others. TVF, which has specialised in web series, makes its cinema foray with Powder.
And if the teaser that came out today is anything to go by, Janardhan is all set to present a laugh riot to audiences on July 12, when Powder releases in theatres. According to an official note from the makers, Powder is about a bunch of down-on-their-luck small -town youngsters with big ambitions and their attempt to get rich quick, which, of course, comes with obstacles galore as they make enemies and frenemies along the way. A light-hearted film, Powder will get a simultaneous global release. At the film’s muhurtha, director Janardhan had said that the aim as to keep the film fun and light, even though it has thriller elements.
The film is based on a story by Deepak Venkatesan and has music by Vasuki Vaibhav. Incidentally, Sean Rolden had been announced as music director during the muhurtha. Speaking about the film, Karthik Gowda and TVF’s Arunabh Kumar said that their endeavour is to tell rich, diverse stories that celebrate young adults in every way. “‘Powder’ is our first collaboration and hopefully a testament to that,” they said, As fans of youth-oriented comedies like Go, Goa, Gone, Delhi Belly, Fukrey, Madgaon Express etc, KRG Studios and TVF believe they have created a laugh out loud entertainer for Kannada audiences and young adults everywhere.
Powder was launched in August 2023 and at the time, Karthik Gowda had said that a second joint venture with TVF was already in development. At the moment, the studio has Uttarakaanda and Kiriket going on and has announced directorials by Kiccha Sudeep and Anjali Menon as well.
