Prabhu Deva: I had qualms about playing a cop in Pon Manickavel, but I'm happy with the response now

The film directed by AC Mugil Chellappan started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from last Friday

The cop thriller Pon Manickavel, directed by AC Mugil Chellappan, released on Disney+ Hotstar a few days ago. Starring Prabhu Deva in the titular tole, the movie has Nivetha Pethuraj playing the female lead in it. Mahendran, Sudhanshu Pandey, Suresh Menon and Prabhakar among others are also seen essaying important roles in the film which has music by Imman.

The project, which has been lying in the cans for a long time, opened to mixed reviews after it started streaming on the OTT platform from Friday. 

Prabhu Deva has now taken to Twitter to share a few words about the movie and the reviews he received post its OTT premiere. In the two minute video he posted, the actor-choreographer-filmmaker said that he came across mixed reviews in the beginning, but was happy to come across many people appreciating the movie and its director. 

He said, "This is for the first time that I played a cop in my career. Initially, I had qualms about pulling off the role of a police officer, but I am now happy with the response from people. Many said that I look fit as a cop in the movie."

Prabhu added, "After the initial flurry of reviews from critics, I was elated that the movie lovers had fun watching Pon Manickavel. Many told me that they had a good time watching it with their family and friends. I request those who haven't watched the movie to catch it on Disney+ Hotstar. It will be a fun ride for you."  

Meanwhile, Prabhu's Thael, directed by Hari Kumar, is all set for a theatrical release on December 10. He will be seen playing a ruffian in the action flick which has Samyukta Hegde playing the female lead.
