Prabhu Deva's cop thriller Pon Manickavel to have a premiere on Disney+ Hotstar this month

Pon Manickavel, starring Prabhu Deva as a cop for the first time in his career, has been lying in the cans for a long time. The action thriller was supposed to hit the screens on February 2020 initially. Later, the makers postponed it by a month and announced a new release date on March 2020. 

However, the onslaught of COVID-19 played spoilsport to their plans. Earlier this year, there was news doing the rounds that the movie will not have a theatrical release, and that the team is mulling over direct-to-OTT release plans. 

One of the producers of the film, Nemichand Jhabak, took to Twitter to announce that the long-delayed project will release on Disney+ Hotstar in November. They also added that the movie's trailer will be out today. The tweet read, "Excited to announce that the most anticipated action thriller #PonManickavel starring @PDdancing @Nivetha_Tweets will release on @DisneyPlusHS this November. #PonManickavelonHotstar, catch the trailer today."       

Nivetha Pethuraj has played the female lead in the movie which has Suresh Chandra Menon, Mahendran, Soori and Prabhakar among others essaying key roles. Imman, who received the National Award for Best Music Director recently, has composed music for the film which has cinematography by KG Venkatesh and editing by T Shivanandeeswaran. 

The movie, which is Prabhu Deva's 50th film as an actor, was titled as Pon Manickavel more than three years ago. The actor-choreographer-filmmaker, who was last seen in Devi 2 in Tamil, has the long-pending Yung Mung Sung, Oomai Vizhigal, the much-expected Bagheera and Poikkal Kudhirai in his kitty. 

Nivetha, on the other hand, has Venkat Prabhu's multi-starrer film Party which was supposed to release long ago. She was last seen in Sangathamizhan in Kollywood.
