A few days ago, many Kollywood trade pundits predicted that the film industry is likely to witness a major shuffle in the release of movies in August. It all began with the speculation that Vikram's much-expected movie Cobra will be postponed from August 11. Though its makers are yet to announce it officially, sources say that it is almost confirmed, and that an update from the team can be expected at any moment.

Sensing a big opportunity at this scenario, the team of Prabhu Deva's Bagheera announced that the film will hit the screens on August 11. SJ Suryah-starrer Kadamaiyai Sei, too, announced its arrival on August 12.

The postponement of Vishal's Laththi, which was supposed to release on August 12, made things even worse. Now, makers of Poikkal Kuthirai, another project of Prabhu Deva, have revealed that the movie will hit the screens on August 5.

Vaibhav's long-pending horror-comedy project, Katteri, too, is arriving on the same day. The film was postponed multiple times in the past. It looks like more movies are likely to announce their arrival in August. But the million dollar question is whether they will stick to their plans or not.

Karthi's Viruman, which was announced as a theatrical release on August 31 long ago, we hear, is planning to utilize the opportunity by preponing its release by three weeks. One of the reasons many filmmakers are depending on August is because a few promising projects like Ponniyin Selvan are already slated to release in September.

Later, Deepavali releases like Sardar and Prince will occupy theatres in the month of October. At a time when exhibitors are worried about the low occupancy in movie halls, wonder how this flurry of releases are going to impact the industry.
