Pramod Shetty, who only recently made the transition from supporting actor to leading man, is gearing up for the release of his next, Shabhaash Baddi Magane. Directed by Rajasekhar, the film has Pramod in cop mode yet again and close on the heels of his last, Laughing Buddha. However, the actor asserts that his character in Shabhaash Baddi Magane is quite different from that in Laughing Buddha. This time around, Pramod plays a police officer, who is best described as the epitome of laziness.

Shabhaash Badi Magane: Tale of a lazy, but brilliant officer

In a quick chat with Power TV, on the sidelines of the trailer launch of Shabhaash Baddi Magane, which is set to release in theatres on February 28, Pramod said, “I have played cop several times and have, in fact, been rejecting offers that require me to do routine police officer roles. There’s got to be something different and Shabhaash Baddi Magane has that. Here, he is the laziest fellow in town. Despite his acute laziness, how he successfully cracks a case is the crux of the tale,” said the actor.

The beauty of the character, adds Pramod, is that while to the outside world he comes across as a lazy, good-for-nothing officer, he’s actually quite brilliant. “My character is happy doing nothing and since he’s also newly-married, he prefers staying home with his wife than being at his station. But unknown to those around him, his mind remains sharp, active, and on the lookout for clues to solve a case,” he says.

With only days to go for the film’s theatrical release, Pramod adds that the non-theatrical business, primarily satellite and digital rights, remain unsold, but platforms have been approached in the hope of cracking a deal. The team has also dubbed the film in other languages. However, the actor says that he firmly believes that filmmakers ought not to rely on the revenue from the OTT or satellite business and that the theatrical release should be the primary focus.
