Prasanth Varma reveals OTT details for HanuMan Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada versions

Director Prasanth Varma confirmed the streaming details for the Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions of HanuMan on Tuesday. He revealed that the film's versions will become available for streaming on April 5 on Disney+Hotstar.

The Telugu version of HanuMan is already streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium, while the Hindi version is available on JioCinema.

After an extended run in theatres, HanuMan made its OTT debut during the second week of March. The film defied the prevailing industry norm by sticking to the theatrical window for more than eight weeks.

HanuMan defied South Cinema's OTT practice

In the South Indian film industry, new movies have their digital premieres within four weeks of their initial theatrical releases. With streaming deals becoming one of the main revenue streams for the producers, the shorter OTT windows for new South movies have gained a lot of traction.

Additionally, not many South filmmakers aim to appeal to the masses in the Hindi-speaking heartland. Otherwise, they would be forced to delay the streaming release of their new films by at least eight weeks if they desire to screen the Hindi versions in the North Indian states.

HanuMan exceeded expectations with its theatrical performance. The film had long theatrical legs, with its global box office earnings crossing more than Rs 300 crore. Despite being made on a shoestring budget, it ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of all time.

The film even outperformed the likes of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram in terms of collection and critical acclaim. HanuMan opened to packed houses amid overwhelming positive reviews from most critics and audiences . The positive word of mouth helped the film overcome the initial obstacles it faced due to other big releases at the box office and emerge as this year's first pan-India hit.
