Priyanka Chopra Jonas has remarked that she experiences a collective failure on behalf of all women when a film in which women play major roles does not fare well at the box office. It's like taking women a few steps back, she said with Bhumi Pednekar at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 in Mumbai. The actor noted that early in her career, she was cautioned against starring in a female-led picture like 2008's Fashion.

Challenges faced in early career and the pressure of female-led films

At the event, Priyanka remarked that there's a lot of pressure when one has a female-led film, and because there are so few of them being created, they are seeing the success of female-led films more and more often, but that's tough to happen every time. When a movie starring women doesn't do well at the box office, it feels like a failure for all women. In her opinion, they have set them back considerably. Only a select handful of us are afforded this opportunity; therefore, they must make the most of it. It doesn't matter if one is a director, actress, writer, medium, hairstylist, or makeup artist; there's just something about it that makes one think that she won't let womankind down because they have so few opportunities.

Reflections on Fashion and the journey of Meghna Mathur

The topic of Fashion came up as well, and Priyanka said that the last time she saw Madhur Bhandarkar, he told her that girls end their careers with female-oriented films for the National Award. She had only just begun and had already completed Krrish and Aitraaz; thus, she came into the spotlight. That was back at the start of the new millennium. In general, she enjoyed Fashion's script, and six months were spent on it. PeeCee called Fashion a labour of love, and they spent some time in Goa developing Meghna Mathur's emotional and physical character arcs. She completely submerged herself in this girl's company.

In addition to Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse, the supporting cast includes Arjan Bajwa, Samir Soni, and Arbaaz Khan. The film was well-received by both audiences and critics.

Meanwhile, talking about her professional front, the Russo Brothers' new series Citadel features Priyanka, and the series follows the exploits of two top spies from the international intelligence agency Citadel: Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka). She also has a role in Ilya Naishuller's Heads of State alongside John Cena and Idris Elba.
