Needless to say, the official announcement on Rajinikanth's next movie, tentatively titled Thalaivar 169, brought cheers to his fans. They have been eagerly waiting to know which movie would their matinee idol commit as the star's last outing Annaatthe (streaming on Netflix) opened to mixed reviews. 

Thalaivar 169, which will be produced by Sun Pictures, is expected to go on floors in April or May. Nelson Dilipkumar, who is currently busy with the post production works of Beast, is directing the movie. Sivakarthikeyan, who has penned a song for Beast and the director's previous outing Doctor, is said to be writing a song for this untitled project as well.

As if this isn't enough, Sivakarthikeyan and Silambarasan were said to be playing pivotal roles in the movie, too. Vadivelu's name was also doing the rounds with regard to essaying an important character. Rajinikanth and Vadivelu last teamed up in P Vasu's Kuselan which released in 2008.

The latest news is that Priyanka Mohan is likely to play the Superstar's daughter in the much-awaited project. She was last seen in Suriya-starrer Etharkkum Thunindhavan which hit the screens last Friday. She played the female lead in Nelson's Doctor as well.

Anirudh is composing music for the film; this is his third collaboration for a Rajinikanth-starrer after Petta (streaming on Netflix) and Darbar (streaming on Amazon Prime Video). It is yet to be known if the film will be released this year. 

Fans of Rajinikanth are eagerly awaiting an update on the film's cast and crew, especially the female lead. There were rumours of Aishwarya Rai teaming up with the star again after the blockbuster Endhiran (streaming on MX Player).
