VK Eswaran, father of producer KE Gnanavelraja of Studio Green, has issued a public notice about the defamatory statement made by director Ameer Sulthan and has pointed out the interview the latter had given to a YouTube channel in March this year.

It is to be noted that the war of words has been going on between Ameer and Gnanavelraja over the film Paruthiveeran, which was backed by the banner, under Ameer’s directorial. Gnanavelraja had claimed that Ameer had learned filmmaking at his expense.

Gnanavelraja’s father issues statement against Ameer

In the public notice issued on behalf of VK Eswaran, it said that he is one of the partners in Studio Green and quoted one of Ameer's interviews, dated March 6, 2024, to a YouTube channel The Debate. The notice claimed that Ameer had "intentionally made defamatory statements" and alleged that Eswaran had become insolvent and further defamed KE Gnanavelraja.

The notice further iterated that Eswaran has not been declared insolvent and the news has brought him "mental agony" to the family, with phone calls from the film fraternity enquiring about the news. Clarifying that he has not been declared insolvent, Eswaran's notice also read that civil and criminal proceedings will be initiated against Ameer and a suit for damages of Rs 10 crore. Filmmaker Ameer is yet to break his silence over the issue.

Ameer embroiled in controversy

Director Ameer has been meddled in controversy for some time now. In a conversation with The Debate, Ameer claimed, “When I did my third film Paruthiveeran, and at the time of the start, Gnanavelraja did not have money. His father had given a solvency certificate and everyone knows that. If someone asks how.”

The controversy regarding Paruthiveeran issue has been going on for a while. After Gnanavelraja claimed that Ameer had learned filmmaking at his expense while making the critically-acclaimed Paruthiveeran, several filmmakers had come in support of Ameer. Paruthiveeran marked Karthi’s debut and was backed by Studio Green.

After Jaffer was held for a drug bust case, he issued a clarification video that he was not involved in any illegal activities and would cooperate with any legal inquiry.
