December 5, 2024, will always be remembered in the history of Indian cinema because that is when the wildfire of a movie, Pushpa 2: The Rule, hit the big screens across the country and the globe. The Allu Arjun starrer needed no warm-up and was a clear shot to top the box office bracket in no time, with a collection that went beyond a thousand crores by the time the movie ended its theatrical run. There was no way the movie would have let any other film take even a bit of its thunder if they came in its way. One movie that was initially scheduled to clash with this monstrous film was Vicky Kaushal’s high-budget period drama Chhaava, which was later postponed indefinitely. Now, as the movie is a week away from its new and final release date, Allu Arjun has possibly revealed an interesting anecdote.
Allu Arjun attended the Pushpa 2: The Rule success meet in Hyderabad, where he expressed gratitude for everything that the audience, filmmaker Sukumar, and his team had given him with Pushpa 2. The actor was elated to talk about what is probably the most successful film of his career—one that will be hard to beat for years to come. During the event, he mentioned how he wants everyone to have a great run at the box office and revealed that he had personally called a filmmaker to request the postponement of their film’s release.
Yes, you read that right. According to Hindustan Times, Allu Arjun revealed at the success meet that there was a Hindi release scheduled for December 6 that would have clashed with Pushpa 2. While the actor did not take any names, he confirmed that he personally called the filmmaker and requested them to push their release date. The filmmaker obliged, stating that they were fans of Pushpa and would indeed move their release date to make way for Pushpa 2. Interestingly, the only movie scheduled for December 6, 2024, that was postponed is Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava.
“When I called up one of the filmmakers from Bollywood—from Hindi cinema, I’m not a fan of that word Bollywood—I called somebody, and they were also supposed to come on December 6. They were very accommodating, and they moved from that date. I personally called them and thanked them for moving the date, and they said, ‘We’re all fans of Pushpa, and if you come, then we will make way for it,’” Arjun said, adding that he is thankful to all the industries of Indian cinema.
Thanking Sukumar for Pushpa, Allu Arjun said it is “not just a film but an emotion.” “For me, Pushpa is not a film; it’s a five-year journey, it’s an emotion. I want to dedicate the entire efforts and success of the film to all my fans and my army. Thank you for your love and support. I’ll make you all more mad, mad, mad, mad proud, I promise. This is a good step. I’ll make you all proud with all your love and blessings,” Arjun added.
Pushpa 2: The Rule is now out on Netflix, and Chhaava is set to hit the big screen on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
