This week will have a slew of announcements about Mammootty’s upcoming films, but maybe none more anticipated than the megastar’s OTT debut Puzhu. Dulquer Salmaan, who has co-produced the movie, took to his social media page to share the release date of the trailer of the film, featuring Mammootty and Parvathy Thiruvothu.

The movie, which has already been announced as a direct-to-OTT release on the streaming platform Sony LIV, is helmed by debutant Ratheena and had completed shooting last year. This will mark the third direct OTT release backed by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films after Jacob Gregory’s Maniyarayile Ashokan and Rosshan Andrrews directorial Salute, which marked the young star’s OTT debut.

Puzhu is touted to be a crime drama and family thriller, which revolves around a father and son duo who have trust issues. The movie, which is also the first collaboration between Parvathy and Mammootty, explores the uneasy dynamics between the parent and the child. The megastar will be playing a role with grey shades after a long gap with Puzhu. The film’s trailer will be out at 5am on May 1.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Dulquer had talked in length about why Mammootty finally decided to do a direct-to-OTT release after being a vocal proponent for theatrical releases after the first lockdown.

““I think he sort of understands that there are certain kinds of cinema right now that would make sense for the OTT viewer, who has the luxury of time and is in the mood to watch that kind of film,” Dulquer said, adding that he and Mammootty are open to doing more OTT movie as they want to leave their mark in that space too.

Mammootty, meanwhile, also has a theatrical release in May with CBI 5: The Brain set to hit theatres on May 1. The movie, directed by K Madhu and scripted by SN Swamy, will have him reprise the iconic role of CBI Sethurama Iyer for the fifth time in 34 years.
