Netflix officially launched the crime-thriller film Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders for streaming on December 19, 2025, at 1:30 pm. Raat Akeli Hai (2020) was an investigative drama, and this film, directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh, is the sequel.

New chapter for Inspector Jatil Yadav

Inspector Jatil Yadav's (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) homecoming is at the heart of the story. A fresh inquiry involving the powerful Bansal family takes place, set several years after the events of the first film, and the focus shifts from the Kanpur-Gwalior belt.

An act of mass murder within the heavily guarded Bansal house sets the stage for the main confrontation. They reportedly found nearly all of the family members' bodies in rooms sealed from the inside. The crime site initially implicates Aarav Bansal, the younger son and a drug addict, prompting Jatil Yadav to conduct an investigation. But when Yadav questions why there doesn't appear to have been any fighting at the scene, he stumbles onto a labyrinth of intrigue involving avarice, treachery, and long-lost family secrets. This sequel maintains the slow-burn noir style of the original film, exploring social prejudices and moral ambiguity.

Ensemble cast

Among the many new and returning performers to the film is Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays Jatil Yadav again but this time as a wiser and more experienced cop. Radhika Apte is back as Radha. Since the last installment, when she was a murder suspect, her character has transformed into someone who provides Yadav with emotional stability. Chitrangada Singh joins the franchise as Meera, a survivor under constant questioning from investigators. Ila Arun reprises her role as Jatil's mother. Deepti Naval, Revathy, Sanjay Kapoor, Akhilendra Mishra, and Rajat Kapoor are also part of the supporting cast.

Due to its serious topics and graphic violence, the film has an 'A' rating in India with a runtime of 136 minutes, or 2 hours and 15 minutes. Pankaj Kumar, who had formerly worked with Trehan as Director of Photography, continued the visually dark style.
