Ragini Dwivedi on her role in Sanju Weds Geetha 2 being cut: ‘I was the negative lead but…’

Ragini Dwivedi’s first Kannada release for the year was to be Sanju Weds Geetha 2, the Nagashekar directorial, in which, she was initially said to have done only a special song, but was later made the antagonist in the tale. In August last year, when she was shooting for the film, Ragini had taken to social media to announce the same and wrote, “Cannot explain how happy I am to announce that I am playing the negative lead. What a role. Sometimes it’s good to be bad as the theme of the character.”

Ragini had further written that she was working with a wonderful team on a beautiful story that she reckoned will make audiences feel multiple emptions, including happiness, sadness, anger and more. However, when the film released on January 17, Ragini was seen in one song and one scene only, contributing precious nothing to the narrative.

The actress, who is also a part of Gajarama, which is currently in theatres, addressed her ‘absence’ in Sanju Weds Geetha 2. “For reasons best known to the team, my portions in Sanju Weds Geetha 2 were cut in the edit. I was actually the negative lead in the film and wasn’t just there for one song. I am really not sure why they decided to do away with my scenes, so, eventually, I had a very brief outing in Sanju Weds Geetha 2,” she said, speaking to Republic Kannada.

The actress adds that she was quite upset about her role being chopped and what she was eventually left with. Sanju Weds Geetha 2 was a film that Ragini became a part of out of love and trust for the team. But the hand she was then dealt has broken that trust, which, the actress says, has hurt her quite a bit. “I heard that the team is looking at re-releasing the film with about 20 minutes of additional footage. If you can accommodate that now, why did you remove it in the first place? I was not told about the release or if I needed to be part of promotions. It was very unprofessional,” she said.

Sanju Weds Geetha 2, which has Srinagara Kitty and Rachita Ram in the lead, had a disastrous 3-day theatrical outing, after which it was removed. The film was widely panned for its unimaginative story-telling.
