Raj B Shetty: Su from So has done better business than a star vehicle; we are happy and rich

Raj B Shetty is and his team of the Kannada film Su From So, which, has been doing phenomenal business at the Karnataka box office, are beyond elated at the unexpected success. Raj says that the response the film got was not even in their wildest dreams. “All that we thought of when we started the project, was to do a good film; we wanted to engage and entertain audiences. That was our only intention. But that is the beauty of cinema that we, as creators don’t know what the impact of a film will be. Right now, Su from So is registering better reception and collection than a film featuring a star,” said Raj to Radio Mango, adding that as a team, they are happy and looking at what they can do next. “As a team, we are very happy and rich,” he laughed.

Su from So performs better than Ekka at the box office

Although Raj did not name the film that Su from So has outperformed, the only ‘star’ perform that came out recently is Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka, which, according to industry trackers is said to have made a little over Rs 10 crore, vis a vis the Rs 25 cr that the former is inching closer to. While Ekka’s budget has not been revealed, it is definitely far higher than Su From So, so Raj and co will enjoy the benefits of a much bigger margin.

Prior to the release, Raj had said that his role was limited to being producer and lyricist (he wrote the Danks Anthem), but it was later revealed that he was in the film, as Karunakar Guruji, called in to exorcise the spirit residing in JP Thuminad’s Ashoka. Since the revelation, Raj has consistenly maintained that he did the role so that his presence would benefit it.

Elaborating, he said, “I realized that I am in a position to use my face to promote others. That is how an industry will become richer, when new and different talent is introduced. I am not hung up about leading a cast, or being a part of it in every film that comes from our banner.” Raj adds that the objective of his banner is to give new talent not only a platform, but also to promote them as much as possible. “It will pay rich dividends in the long run,” he said.
