Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan stands as one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year, and the filmmakers appear to be eyeing the most lucrative box office date for its launch.

The latest industry buzz suggests that the producers are planning to release Vettaiyan during the Diwali holiday, although an official confirmation is still pending.

Vettaiyan boasts an all-star cast

The film has captured the audience's imagination, primarily due to its star-studded cast. Filmmaker TJ Gnanavel has seemingly achieved a casting coup by bringing together some of the biggest names from the Indian film industry. A major highlight is the onscreen reunion of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after a hiatus of over 30 years. The last time these two Indian cinema legends shared the screen was in Hum (1991), and before that, in Geraftaar.

It's worth noting that during the making of Hum, Rajinikanth found inspiration to create Baasha, a film portraying a reformed gangster escaping his past.

Vettaiyan also marks the debut collaboration between Rajinikanth and Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil. The duo appears together in multiple scenes, with shooting locations spanning across the country.

The supporting cast of Vettaiyan includes Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh.

Vettaiyan storyline

Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the movie sees Rajinikanth portraying the role of a police officer. Reports suggest that the film revolves around an encounter specialist and his battle exploits. Given director Gnanavel's filmography, the expectation is that the film will offer a poignant perspective on the drawbacks of excessive use of power, rather than glorifying the high-handed actions of the police force.

The production of Vettaiyan has been ongoing since last year, and Rajinikanth recently confirmed that around 80 percent of the shooting is complete. Once he wraps up his segments for "Vettaiyan," he is set to join the sets of director Lokesh Kanagaraj's next project, tentatively titled Thalivar 171.
