Superstar Rajinikanth wrote a heartfelt note to commemorate the 80th birthday of his elder brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaikwad. He posted a couple of pictures from the celebrations on his Twitter account and credited his brother for making him "who he's today."

"Had the happiness of celebrating the 80th birthday of my brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaikwad and the 60th birthday of his son Ramakrishna on the same day with my family … felt blessed to shower gold on this golden heart which made me who I am today thankful to god," Rajinikanth tweeted.

In the pictures, Rajinikanth and his wife Latha could be seen showering on Sathyanarayana as part of the traditional birthday rituals. In another photo, Rajinikanth could be seen posing for the camera with his other family members. Rajinikanth's elder daughter Aishwarya was also present at the celebration.

Rajinikanth spent last week in Karnataka with his wife and daughter. He had travelled to Mangluru to shoot for his upcoming film Jailer. On the sets, he was joined by Kannada movie star Shivarajkumar, who is also playing an important cameo in it. Later, he travelled to Bengaluru and took part in Saturday's Maha Shivaratri celebrations hosted by a popular ashram in Bengaluru. The picture of Rajinikanth meditating with Latha had gone viral on social media. On Sunday, he joined his brother's family in Bengaluru for the birthday celebrations.

As soon as he arrived in Chennai, Rajinikanth paid a visit to the late comedy actor Mayilsamy's residence . He spoke to the media after paying his respects. He called Mayilsamy "a long-time friend" and he noted that their friendship transcended the professional relationship.

Rajinikanth is now busy shooting for Jailer, which is due in cinemas later this year. Written and directed by Nelson, the film also stars Mohanlal in a key supporting role.
