Rajinikanth to team up with THIS acclaimed director post Jailer? Here's what we know about the star's next

It is known that Superstar Rajinikanth is shooting for Jailer in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff joined the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial recently, and film lovers are excited to the core. There are reports that the action drama is likely to be released in either August or November.

Even before the makers of Jailer confirming its release date, many speculations have been doing the rounds on the star's next movie. There was news that the numero uno Kollywood hero was in talks with Don fame Cibi Chakravarthi. A few other names also surfaced on social media, but nothing was finalized.

But it looks like TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame has grabbed the opportunity. According to a report in TOI, the Superstar has okayed the script narrated by the director and it is based on a real incident. It is also heard that Annaatthe star will be playing a cop's role in the film.

The last time he essayed a cop was in AR Murugadoss' Darbar which was released in 2020. An official update is expected later this year after Rajinikanth completes Jailer. He had signed two projects with Lyca Productions sometime ago. Movie buffs assume that the film with Gnanavel might be bankrolled by the production house.

He will be seen in Lalsalam, too, in a cameo helmed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. She is returning to filmmaking after a seven-year hiatus. AR Rahman has started composing music for the project which stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles.

Jailer is Rajini's 169th project, and Lalsalam his 170th. So, Gnanavel's film would be tentatively titled Thalaivar 171 until makers come up with an official announcement and title.
