Shankar's Sivaji is a special film for fans of Rajinikanth for many reasons. The blockbuster movie marked the first collaboration of Kollywood's numero uno star and numero uno filmmaker. Released on June 15, 2007, the film went on to shatter existing box office records in south India and was one of the top grossing projects in the country as well.

Thanks to its stylish first look to chartbuster songs composed by AR Rahman to exciting stills of Rajinikanth which were out much before the film's release, the movie witnessed a gargantuan opening at the box office at Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and overseas.

The film is now all set to release on the streaming giant, Netflix; the superhit movie will drop on the OTT platform on October 12. Interestingly, the movie, the duration of which is more than three hours, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video as well. Shriya Saran played the female lead in the movie, which had KV Anand handling cinematography and Anthony in charge of editing. Vivekh, Suman, Manivannan, Vadivukkarasi, Cochin Haneefa and Raghuvaran among others essayed notable roles in the movie which had Nayanthara appearing in its intro song.

Post Sivaji, though a few films of Rajinikanth satisfied his legions of fans completely, many of them still consider it to be the last 'true-blue Rajini film' in every sense. Bankrolled by AVM productions, the movie, which was re-released several times in Tamil Nadu and a few other countries later, had a 3D version, too, which hit the screens five years later, in 2012, coinciding with the star's birthday.

Rajini and Shankar then joined hands for Enthiran and 2.0 in 2010 and 2018 respectively. The star's later films like Kaala, 2.0 and Darbar dropped on Amazon Prime Video while Kabali and Petta released on Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix respectively.
