Rajkummar Rao ready to speak Bengali language fluently for Sourav Ganguly biopic: 'It's going to be a lot of fun'

Rajkummar Rao is undoubtedly a versatile player. He can pull off any role, be it a negative, a serious character, or a romantic person. The actor was recently seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf and received praise. Amid this, Rajkummar confirmed that he is playing former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly's biopic.

In a chat with NDTV, Rajkummar Rao finally revealed that he is playing the biopic of the former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly. "Now that Dada (Sourav Ganguly) has already said it, let me also make it official - yes, I am playing him in his biopic," the National Award-winning actor said.

Sourav, who is dearly called Dada by his fans, belongs to Kolkata, hence, the Bengali language will play a pivotal part in the film. Rajkummar is a fluent Bengali speaker, and the credit goes to his wife Patralekhaa, who is a Bengali. 

Speaking more about the biopic, the Maalik actor said, "I am nervous... It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun."

Previously, Ganguly said that Rajkummar is the right person to do his biopic and added, "I'll help him with everything."

Sourav Ganguly also stated, "Rajkummar has been locked for the film. I don't think anyone else can play me better than him." The former India captain is closely involved in the creative process of this biopic, which will revolve around his journey from the streets of Kolkata to the paths of Indian cricket.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly was a highly successful Indian cricketer, known for his aggressive left-handed batting, effective medium-pace bowling and exceptional leadership as captain. He is considered one of India's greatest ODI batsmen and captains, who has transformed the Indian team into a formidable force in both Tests and ODIs. The former cricketer is also famous for his reality quiz show, Dadagiri. 

Rajkummar Rao's work front

Rajkummar will also be seen in Maalik. The movie, directed by Pulkit, is a gangster drama set in Allahabad in 1988. The story revolves around a man's rise through the underworld, where strong social themes are mixed with intense action, and themes of love, loyalty, and honor are explored. It will be released on July 11.
