Raksha Bandhan on Zee5: Akshay Kumar's family drama achieves THIS special feat after its OTT premiere

Aanand L Rai's Raksha Bandhan, which was one of the biggest releases this year, dropped on Zee5 on October 5. The Akshay Kumar-starrer family drama, which revolves around the story of a doting brother and his four sisters, hit the screens on August 11.

The film was supposed to bring back the audience to movie halls along with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha which, too, released on the same day. However, both the movies couldn't meet the expectations and ended up as flops at the box office. Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna play lead roles in the film.

The movie has now clocked 40 million minutes of streaming after its OTT premiere. Zee5 has announced the same from their social media handle, and fans of Akshay Kumar have been taking to the comment section to express excitement.

Raksha Bandhan was the third film of the star to release this year after Bachchhan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj. It was also his second continuous movie with director Aanand after Atrangi Re which skipped theatrical release last year. Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon have penned the screenplay for Raksha Bandhan which has songs composed by Himesh Reshammiya and Ishaan Chhabra in charge of background score. 

Hemal Kothari and KU Mohanan handled editing and cinematography respectively for the project which was bankrolled jointly by Cape of Good Films and Colour Yellow Productions. 

Akshay, who was last seen in Disney+ Hotstar's crime thriller Cuttputlli, is ready with Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu, which is set to hit the screens on October 25. Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha will be seen essaying pivotal roles in it.
